How to order a vessel history report
However you arrive at the Maritime Records Bureau website — through our home page, a search for HIN or vessel history, or a referral — the process is the same. For your convenience, we provide simple fields where you can enter your Hull Identification Number (HIN) or Hull Number. This brings us to the first step.
Step 1: Enter your HIN or Hull Number.
Enter your vessel identification number in the appropriate box and click "Check". Most U.S. boats carry a 12-character HIN, usually found on the starboard side of the transom, on registration paperwork, or on vessel documentation.
Step 2: See what data our reports contain.
You will not be making a blind bargain. Depending on the vessel, our report may include basic information such as year of manufacture, builder, and model, along with additional details — ownership and registration history, accident and damage records, total loss or salvage events, hurricane damage, theft records, and recalls. All you need to do is enter your HIN or Hull Number at the top of the page. Note: if no data is available at this point, no data will be included in the post-purchase report. Here you can also decide which report to purchase — we offer several report options.
Step 3: Pay for the selected vessel history report
If you have a discount code or a PREPAID code, enter it before selecting a payment method. Enter your e-mail address, which will also serve as your account login. You can choose from many convenient payment methods. After making a choice, follow the on-screen instructions. Payment processing time is usually 2–3 minutes. However, in the case of a traditional bank transfer it may be longer, especially on weekends and during holidays. When your payment is successful, you will receive a payment confirmation e-mail and — if it is your first purchase — another e-mail with a password to your account. If you are a first-time buyer and cannot find the e-mail with your password, be sure to also check the SPAM folder. Your vessel history report is typically delivered within 12 hours.
